Abstract


This research entitled An Analysis of Slang Words of Song Lyrics in the Album by Sabrina Carpenter. This research aims to determine the types and meaning of slang word formation which are manifested in the formation of slang words in Sabrina Carpenter' album, 'Emails I Cant Send'. A qualitative descriptive method based on Yule's (2017) theory was used in this research. Data collection involved documenting 13 song lyrics from Sabrina Carpenter albums. This research found that there were seven types of slang word formation in the data: blending, clipping, derivation, coinage, compounding, borrowing, and multiple process. Blending emerged as the most dominant type, accounting for 41% of all events, followed by clipping (30%), derivation (14%), coinage (6%), compounding (5%), borrowing (3%) and multiple process (1%). Meaning slang word of this album dominant make blending that is the process of combining two or more words into a new word. These slang word are used in albums to convey emotion, establish rhythmic patterns, and inspire songs.
