Students’ Perception of Song Lyrics as a Media for Learning English Vocabulary at Elementary School

Abstract


English is one of the subjects taught in elementary schools. As an international language, English is taught from an early age, making it easier for children to master English. This research was conducted as an attempt to see the students’ perception of using song lyrics media for elementary school students as an effort to improve their English vocabulary skills. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach by collecting data from field observations, questionnaires, and teacher interviews. The data in this study used a sample of 30 students and 1 English teacher. The results of the study show that students were more interested in memorizing English vocabulary by using song lyrics provided during class learning. Not only that, the results of interviews with teacher showed that students more easily mastered vocabulary after learning by using song lyrics. This study give recommendation of the using song lyrics as a media for learning, so the students will improve their English vocabulary.
