Abstract
A community service took place at Posyandu Melati III located in West Pejaten – Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. It aimed to introduce the importance of first language acquisition (i.e. Indonesian language as the mother tongue) by knowledge-sharing activities to facilitate the members of Posyandu Melati III with useful and practical information on how to use correct Indonesian language towards their children. The knowledge shared are based on Teori Belajar Bahasa for language development of children. Results showed that the parents were finally aware the correct Indonesian they should say towards their children. Most of the parents use baby talk when communicating with these children, for example, parents let the children say mimi cucu, instead of the correct one, i.e. minum susu (lit.trl. drinking milk); atit instead of sakit (lit.trl. sick or ill); atut instead of takut (lit.trl. afraid). The parents were enthusiastic about the program by asking many questions regarding the matters. They wanted to know how to teach their children correct Indonesian language and looked forward more program like this in the future since there is still a lack of program like the one the team offered in this community service.
