Abstract

Pets are part of nature that can be used as familiar and responsive companions. As the times develop, now the trend of raising animals has become more and more prevalent. Pets are one of today's lifestyle trends. Many of them consider that having a pet is one of the most interesting hobbies. However, behind the rise of this trend, in the city of Medan, facilities for pets are still very minimal, so facilities that accommodate activities related to pets are needed in one place. The purpose of this study is to design a Pet Center for dogs and cats with a metaphorical architectural approach. In this case, metaphor as a method is to choose one type of metaphorical architecture and then choose an idea or concept that can be applied to the main or supporting elements of the building. With the design of this Pet Center, it is hoped that pet owners and their pets can recreation, socialize, be educated, carry out care and health as well as community. The mass of the Pet Center building uses a palpable metaphorical theme, namely the shape of the building is made to resemble the shape of a dog's ear which represents the main user of the building, namely dogs and cats to show that the needs of the two animals must be listened to and voiced so that pet owners must be responsible for their pets, be it in terms of education, interaction, recreation, health, and maintenance.
